چکیده

Acute myocardial infarction leads to loss of functional myocytes and structural integrity of the heart. Autologous cell transplantation to repair or regenerate injured myocardium is a new direction in the treatment of cardiovascular disease. The clinical advantage of this approach known as cellular cardiac-implant for myocardial repair is obvious because autologous myoblast implantation avoids many of the logistical difficulties associated with cardiac transplant, as well as the need for immunosuppression therapy. Autologous skeletal myoblasts appear to be the most well studied and best first generation cells for cardiac repair. Today more than twenty patients wordwide have been operated with this technique. However the era of cell transplantation has only begun. What type of cell is the best? and What is the efficacy? are major questions that remain to be answered. Nor is it known whether cardiac muscle can form electromechanical junctions with skeletal muscle grafts and induce synchronous contraction. Autologous cellular cardiac-implant offers the promise of restoring regional function for patients who have had a myocardial infarction. Future studies will need to establish the efficacy of this approach.

Clinical and experimental approaches to knee cartilage lesion repair and mesenchymal stem cell chondrocyte differentiation.

Cartilage has poor regeneration capacity due to the scarcity of endogenous stem cells, its low metabolic activity and the avascular environment. Repair strategies vary widely, including microfracture, autologous or allogenic tissue implantation, and in vitro engineered tissues of autologous origin. However, unlike the advances that have been made over more than two decades with more complex org...

Patient satisfaction in unilateral and bilateral breast reconstruction.

BACKGROUND The goal of reconstruction after mastectomy is to provide a long-term and symmetric reconstruction. Providing symmetry entails different decision making when faced with a unilateral or bilateral reconstruction. In unilateral reconstruction, the goal is to match the contralateral breast; however, in bilateral reconstruction, symmetry between the reconstructed breasts is more important...

Is Unilateral Implant or Autologous Breast Reconstruction Better in Obtaining Breast Symmetry?

Unilateral breast reconstruction poses a special set of challenges to the reconstructive breast surgeon compared to bilateral reconstructions. No studies to date provide an objective comparison between autologous and implant based reconstructions in matching the contralateral breast. This study compares the quantitative postoperative results between unilateral implant and autologous flap recons...
